Susan McCabe has been a resident of Frederick County Virginia since 1989. She was employed at the Stewart Bell, Jr., Archives of Handley Regional Library from 1997 to 2001, after which she was appointed to a position on the Joint Archives Committee. The committee, in conjunction with the Winchester-Frederick County Historical Society, helps to oversee the Archives, its collections, and its daily operations. As one of the Founding Board Members for the Shenandoah Valley Genealogical Society, Susan is currently serving as the President of that organization. She has also been a past adjunct professor at Shenandoah University’s Lifetime for Learning Program, teaching beginning and secondary classes in genealogy. Susan coordinated and co-edited a reference book entitled Index to Burials in Frederick County Virginia, which was a culmination of many months of field research in the County’s numerous cemeteries. The book has been recently updated, and is the definitive index to burials in the area. A new printing of the book is available from the Winchester-Frederick County Historical Society, or through the Stewart Bell Jr. Archives at PO Box 58, Winchester, VA 22604. Susan is now into her 5th year of assisting families from across the country in finding their Shenandoah
Valley roots. She has been researching her own family for over 35 years. Susan and her husband Peter have two
sons, Tyler and Matthew McCabe. |
